Host Community

Yarmouth and Acadian Shores

The South West Shore of Nova Scotia offers visitors an experience shaped by the sea as well as hospitality like no other from its Acadian communities in Clare and Argyle. Savour traditional meals while listening to local musicians, visit art galleries and artists’ studios, discover Acadian history in the oldest Acadian settlement in the world or discover restaurants and shops in the historic port town of Yarmouth!

More than 13 000 French-speakers live in the South West Shore, bringing a rich blend of heritage, culture and community spirit. While traditionally very dependent on the fishing industry, the South West Shore today displays a growing entrepreneurial spirit, with many individuals choosing to start small businesses or working in the services, tourism, manufacturing or construction industries. The Université Sainte-Anne, Nova Scotia’s only French university, with campuses in Church Point and Tusket, is a key player in the economic growth and cultural development of the region. The university also opens a window to the world by hosting dozens of exchange students every year.

The CDENE, which acts as a catalyst in economic development for the Acadians and Francophones of Nova Scotia, is a proud partner of the Celebrating Communities conference.
